Steel Magnolia Designs was birthed in the summer of 2012 by Carrie Stevens and her daughter, Mary Jane Heard, and Carrie’s husband, Dan. Carrie left her job as a Counselor due to a long commute and a desire to have more time with the ministry in Dallas that her husband leads. One day after brainstorming with Mary Jane & Dan, they decided to combine their creative talents to start Steel Magnolia Designs.
Mary Jane is a recent graduate of Texas A&M University with a degree in Tourism. She has always enjoyed art and loves to paint, interjecting her unique ideas into projects. Carrie has a Bachelors degree in Interior Design & Art and has used her creativity throughout the years in many modes, as well as teaching art to children and adults. Dan is a graphic artist and owns a printing and sign business in Dallas. He is using his woodworking skills to repair furniture pieces as well as help repurpose pieces. The threesome mix their talents to breathe life back into found objects, neglected furniture and accessories.
Along with refurbishing furniture, the team are using their talents in other ways too. Carrie takes found objects and welds them into furniture bases to make one of a kind pieces, then tops them with marble or granite. She is also welding sculptures from found objects that can be used indoors or outdoors. Dan is creating beautiful crosses from old barn wood and tops them with rusted hardware or whatever found decorations are available. While using her expertise to paint & refurbish furniture, Mary Jane is using her talents to create ideas for new and upcoming projects. She is also experienced in painting techniques in order to refurbish furniture.
